Twintris Review

So I am taking it that everyone has played Tetris because it's everything and anything. I mean it even beats games like Doom for being on the most machines ever. It's a very simple game to play and is very addictive because even I have started to play at around 5pm in the evening only to find out that after a long session its 11pm, where did that time go?

Twintris is the Amiga answer to all our Tetris dreams. Not only can it be a simultaneous 2 player game but the vast amount of options you have for this game is incredible.

Let's take it from the top, shall we?

First we have the arcade mode where you make a certain amount of lines to progress into the next level (the video below shows this mode), Tournament mode (9 human players play one after another with an outright winner) and Cup mode (start off with 4 players (its like having a semi-final round) and end up with 1 winner). In the second box below it, we have 3 difficulties with easy, tricky and hard and below that we have the speed of the game which is normal, speed play 1 and speed play 2. Under that, we have a high score table, start game and a control menu where you can pick who uses joysticks or keys which you can define yourself.

Now if you never played Tetris(which I highly doubt) then let's go over the fundamentals and see what we should be doing.

You get a vertical space on the screen and its empty. Blocks fall down of certain shapes and you have to manage those shapes so that when they fall down you leave no spaces at all. When a line is full it vanishes and gives you score along with an adding to your line count. I mean you can turn the shapes around to make them fit better and you do know what's coming next at the top right of the screen. Although in later levels that will disappear and you are on your own, but that's about it on how to play this wonderful game.

Graphics are basic but oh so fantastic and this is one game that all the music I really enjoy listening too. In fact, I remember back in the day going through my Amiga CD collection to find all the tracks the playing them through Pro Tracker to put them onto a C60 for my Sony Walkman on the walk to and from school.

Now correct me if I am wrong(and this is the internet so I know it will happen) but didn't this come on a cover disk? Maybe Amiga Format or something? I can just imagine it being supplied like that and if I am right then oh boy this was a treat of the month.

I really can't get enough of this game so excuse me while I go back into the Tetris corner and have another go.

Oh by the way if you wanted more opinions on this game or just want the game you can go to the Lemon Amiga website and also watch the fantastic Mrs Mad Lemon playing the game too.

Bye for now ….
