Amiga Emulators on Android

When you think about the mass power we have in our Android devices you would think that emulating the Commodore Amiga be it computer or console would be no problem. I mean, I remember using my old AMD K6-2 300Mhz PC back in the day with apps like Fellow and WINUAE that all ran quite well.

Sadly, this is not the case and the Amiga emulators are lacking quite a bit from its computer counterparts. The ones I know of on the Google Play Store are Omega 500, Uae4all2, Uae4arm and UAE4Droid.

Within this little lot you can run disk images and the like, but I was looking for CD32 support and the only one I could find was Uae4arm. This emulator will run the cue and bin files plus it also plays the .wav and .mp4 for the audio tracks. Problem I found was that on my mobile phone (Huawei P10) is that sometimes the emulation slows down. If I come out of the emulator then go back in without ending the app the whole machine locks and I have to reset the phone.

Going on to other tablets like the Amazon Fire 7 tablet and after I installed the Google Play Store because Amazon and Google are not the best of friends. I had the same problems as my mobile phone. It could be the lack of CPU power I thought I would try Bluestacks for Windows.

This app allows you to run Android apps and games through it and I have had a lot of success in the past. I have been playing PUBG using keyboard and mouse on the mobile version for a while now and it works very well.

Anyway, after a lot of work in importing kickstart ROMS and then a CD image, I did get it to run, but it's the same outcome.

So I have come to the conclusion that the Amiga emulators at the moment really don't cut it with Android. I do hope someone can catch up with UAE and maybe even we will see a port of FS-UAE for android in the not too distant future, but for now stick to your PC.

If you have had different results please comment below or where you saw this article as I would be very interest in how you got it all up and running.

The emulators I used for this article are ...

Omega 500
This emulator is no longer on Google Play at all. Maybe if you still wanted it there is a place you can get it, but I wouldn't risk putting your device in harm's way of some hacker.
