I recently read a review of this game in an old Amiga CD32 Gamer magazine and for some reason, they compared it to Lemmings. In fact, its nothing like Lemmings and the whole review was very unfair. I just hope that my little review will set the ball straight.
Anyway, Diggers is a mining game where you get to select out of 4 different species that have very different stats. One is quick, One is good at digging and I think you get the idea. Once you picked the miners you want to play with you have to pick the area on the map to mine. In each area, you must get a total amount of money to win.
You then get transported into the game where you have 5 miners to control with a handy little menu. This menu will change as you select the icons with newer commands. It's quite a good idea and works well on a controller although if you have one then I would recommend using an Amiga mouse as its a lot faster.
As you go along you can tell your miners to start digging and this is the bit where you can really explore below. You see its not all dirt and mud down there, but you have caves and hidden treasure. You also have monsters and death drops so you must be careful.
If you find enough gems you can transport yourself back to the top and into the shop. Here you can trade them off and use them to get certain equipment that will help you on your quest to get those gems.
I have only scratched the surface on what you can do with this game and there is a lot to do as you get further into the game.
Graphically its very nice and very detailed, but the major jewel is the music as its done by the late Richard Joseph. I personally like the game over music and I listen to it quite a bit when I'm playing the game.
All in all its an excellent game but don't expect it to be action-packed. It's more of a mind game and where you must plan whats going to happen next.
