Dangerous Streets Review

Before we get into this let's just face facts. The Amiga, in general, is lacking in that one killer fighting game that other consoles have. Street Fighter 2 was a total disaster and Mortal Kombat was passable but nothing as good as the console versions.

Dangerous Streets another 1 on 1 fighting game and this time its made by Flair Software. You have 8 characters to select from and all of them have their own fighting style and special moves. Each has a different backdrop which is very fitting on where they come from.

The problem is when you get into the game because animation is almost non-existent and the graphics which large are not very good, but at least they use the controller to its full potential with different moves on each button. Please don't think you will be doing mega hyper combos in this game as the mechanics are very clunky and really don't work that way.

Music done by CD audio and some of it is decent but the voice acting is just dreadful. You just know the devs were bunched together talking into a mic making up the voices thinking they were super cool but in reality, it's quite embarrassing.

But let's look at the gameplay for a moment or should I say the lack of. Now, in Street Fighter or any other top quality fighting game, you know that it's going to take a lot of planning in doing the right moves at the right time. Linking combos together and catching out the other person. In this game, all of that has been thrown out of the window and it's just a plan button mash and hope for the best. I really didn't know what was going on and once I found a move that would hit them from a distance I just kept on doing it as the other moves would put me in the line of fire. This is not how a fighting game should be.

Sadly, this was bundled with almost every Amiga CD32 and let's face it no one would have ever bought it because it's so poor. I would go as far to say I have seen better PD and shareware games than this with a much higher quality. It looks like one of the first games on the Amiga when it first came out and I rate it even poorer than Street Fighter 2. So that should speak volumes to anyone.
